Deeds: To Have and To Do

Deed:
a legal instrument in writing that passes, affirms, or confirms an interest, right or property; most commonly associated with transferring title to property

You were given the deed to your amazing life on the day you were born.

It's 100% yours.

Now let me ask you this: If you were given a deed to property on the island of Bora Bora, a luxury resort destination, what would you do?

I think you would go there, right?

In other words, you would act on your deed.

The other definition for deed is:
an action that is performed intentionally or consciously

Interesting that when you have a deed you will perform a deed in response.

Today, claim your life story, live it, and write it.

Break a Mirror?

You know the legend: Break a mirror and have 7 years of bad luck.

Is that true?

No. Not at all.

Here's how that started:

The Romans were the first to invent glass mirrors and I guess they also decided to throw in a superstition as well.

According to ancient beliefs, mirrors not only reflected a person's image; they could also confiscate a person's soul. Therefore, if a mirror broke, a person's soul would be trapped in a broken and distorted image.

There was a fix for that though. You could bury the pieces under a tree during a full moon.

Let's fast forward to today and your life story.

Your life is reflected by all that you say and do (that's your life story.)

So, what's in your life? Happiness, sadness, hope, fear? Are you progressing toward your goals?

Remain in full control of your thoughts and what you reflect to the world will be positive and successful.

You and only you control your reflection.

And only you can write you life story. (And you don't even need a full moon to do that.)

Is Your Life a Painting or a Mirror?

You get a choice.

Your life can either be like a painting or a mirror.

Think about how a painting was created. An artist carefully chooses the right colors, arranges the subjects in a certain way, and even shades the images with respect to the light source.

A mirror, on the other hand, reflects what is already there. And that could be a good or bad thing.

But a mirror cannot change what it sees.

When writing your life story, be a painter.

It's better to create than to reflect.

Assemble your goals and dreams. Place your abilities and skills forefront in your life. Make decisions using broad and expressive strokes.

Create your future. One moment at a time.

Make it a masterpiece.

What's More Real: Time or Dreams?

Did you pick time?

Sorry, wrong answer. Time is a creation.

It was established for us to interact with each other in this world and in an orderly way.

It's completely arbitrary and only has the meaning we ascribe to it.

Dreams, or goals, on the other hand, are more real since they represent a collection of facts that are specific to you.

The dreams you have reflect your unique skills. They reveal the best course of action for you to pursue since they take every aspect of your life into consideration.

Think of your dreams as an internal GPS that knows the best destination for you.

Just like a GPS can factor in best routes, road conditions, and traffic, your dreams automatically plot a course that can lead you to success and fulfillment.

Listen to what your heart and mind tell you. Sometimes, it's difficult in this 'noisy' world to do that, but the results are worth it.

Dreams are not nebulous or vague ideas; they are a way for you to live the life for which you were born.

Today, whenever you check the time, check your dreams as well.

Buying a New _____(fill in the blank)

Don't you love to buy something new?

When you purchase something that no one else ever owned, there is no history of other people using (or even misusing) it.

Something new means that you and only you will have the power to create a past, present, and a future for it.

Hmmm...

Sounds sort of like your life story, huh?

You are a unique person. No one is exactly like you.

You have a set of skills and abilities that can make a positive impact in the world.

Remind yourself of the excitement you have when you buy a new car, house, or pair of Jimmy Choos.

Now, multiply that excitement by a million and go out and write your life story.

When Push Comes to Shove

Everyone's life story has a critical moment.

A time when a decision needs to be made.

Even though life is full of changes, (see yesterday's post: Hello Heraclitus ) we don't like change.

Which is why we may delay making a decision that could or should move us forward.

We may feel the gentle pushing of the Universe to lead us to do something or say something. But if we ignore these pushes for too long, we may find ourselves shoved into a spot that we may not like.

And that spot is called 'change.'

Writing your life story means things will change in your life. That is normal.

But it's how we respond to those changes that determines our course.

Be fearless, because when push comes to shove, you will do the right thing.

Sunday, May 24, 2015

Hello, Heraclitus

Have you heard of Heraclitis? He was a Greek philosopher best know for his doctrine of change being the center of the universe.

Nothing stays the same forever.

Is your life the same as it was a year ago? How about 2 years? Or 10?

Besides the normal process of aging, you have probably changed in other ways as well. Your ideals and goals may be different. Other changes may be how you interact with people or what you value the most.

However, these changes can be either positive or negative.

There will be changes; it's up to you to decide in which direction your life is moving.

But in the midst of all these changes is a wonderful constant:

You will always be in full control of your thoughts.

That's how the mind works.

Yes, situations, people, and events will come into our lives, sometimes bringing joy and other times causing us pain.

It's up to us how we will react.

Change will happen.

But never let changes move you from the course of writing your life story. You have a purpose in this world.

Live it. Let it be.

There's a Key For That

I bet that somewhere in your house you have a key but you have absolutely no idea what it opens.

I have several.

The problem with these keys is that I know they open something important, but can't seem to remember what.

The fear is that if I get rid of these keys, I may need them someday.

What's the fix?

Use your keys. Recognize them for what they are and what they unlock.

A key is special because whatever it opens is also special.

When you were born, you were given a key that opens your life and begins to unlock your potential.

But sometimes we forget how special we are. And the key remains hidden somewhere...

Today, I ask you to take out one of those 'useless' keys you have hanging around your house. Put it in your pocket or purse to remind yourself of the value of your life.

And continue to write your life story.

All Aboard for Synchronicity!

Are you ready for the trip of your lifetime?

Better yet, are you ready for a trip that will give you hands-down, uncontested proof that the Universe is watching you, helping you, and waiting for you to write your life story?

Today, we travel to synchronicity.

No, it's not a place; rather, it's a revelation of the Universe and its very real and active presence in your life.

First, the definition of synchronicity:
the simultaneous occurrence of events that appear significantly related but have no discernible causal connection

Often, when people are aware of synchronicity, they start to see triple digits everywhere: (111, 555, 11:11)

Other evidence of synchronicity is experiencing perfect timing or having seemingly unrelated things form a pattern.

Now, I give you a ticket to synchronicity and tell you to look for evidence of the Universe in your life.

It will be there.

When you observe synchronicity in action, you will also have a renewed sense of the Universe's presence and power in your life.

Write your story with confidence.

Got Ambrosia?

According to Greek mythology, ambrosia was the drink of the gods. It was believed to have given them longevity or immortality.

Apparently, there was a drink for that.

The interesting part is that the gods, (who were oh-so-smart) knew to drink their ambrosia. They wanted to enjoy all that went with their position.

Can you imagine the first conversation one of the gods had with the cosmic barista?

"Good morning, Zeus. How about trying a new drink we just got in? It's ambrosia."

"Hmmm...what's so special about it?"

"It will give you immortality."

"Make it a double."

I'm sure Zeus grabbed for all the gusto he could get.

How about you? Are you accepting all the Universe has to offer?

Are you resting in the certain knowledge that you have access to all the abundance on the planet?

Cheers!

Applicable

Definition: applicable
applying or capable of being applied; relevant

Is this blog applicable to you?

Can the ideas I am writing about be applied to you and your life story?

If you doubt they can, ask yourself why.

If you are a human, living on planet Earth, you have access to the abundant resources of the Universe.

You were born to succeed, make a difference in this world, and use your unique set of abilities to impact those around you.

If you think any differently, then it is your thinking that is wrong.

Yes, the ideas in this blog are applicable to you.

Now, go out and apply them.

Write your life story. We're waiting.

Got Your Game Face?

If people were to wonder what you were thinking, what would they say?

Do you look happy, successful, content, or motivated?

Or not...

Our face says a lot about what is in our minds.

Sports players put on their 'game face' to show their opponents they are there to win.

Let's do that today.

Let your facial expression show your determination to write your life story and enjoy the abundance of the Universe. (Yep, that includes smiling!)

Make your day. Literally.

Make your day (and your life) what you want it to be.

Get the game face on and go.

That is All

The first phonebook recommended ending the call by saying, "That is all."

I'm sure that didn't exactly create a warm, fuzzy feeling, and I can see why we don't use that expression now.

But when you're writing your life story, it may be a good idea to think of the Universe telling you "that is all." As in-- you have all you need.

That whole idea of having access to the abundance of the Universe may be hard to understand at first. And the reason for that is we tend to look at what we don't have.

Whatever you focus on will increase.

If you are looking at what you are lacking, you will fall short.

Look at all you have and it will grow.

That is all.

True or False?

The earth is flat.

A machine with wings will not be able to fly.

The automobile will never replace the horse and buggy.

The earth is the center of the solar system.

Yep, they're all false. But at one time, people thought they were true.

Believing that something is true doesn't make it true.

Our thoughts can be wrong. That's why it's so important to only allow true thoughts to filter through our minds.

Believing in false ideas will cause us to act in ways that will not move us toward our goals and help us write our life stories.

You are an amazing person with access to the abundant resources in the Universe.

That is completely true.

But just don't like that idea; live it.

Handing You the Remote

There is power in the remote, isn't there? Whoever holds it gets to change channels.

Today, I give you a virtual remote. This remote is different than the one you have at home; mine only has three options:

Past
Present
Future

My advice-- should you decide to accept it-- (cue: Mission Impossible theme song) is to keep your focus on the present as much as possible.

Sure, you may pop into the past for a quick peek, but when you feel discouraged, angry, or just plain sad, click back to the present.

You may also check into the future to envision yourself as the successful and happy person you are destined to become, but don't stay on this channel too long either.

Life is meant to be lived in the present.

Keep your thoughts in the now for optimum viewing and best living.

Working for the Weekend

Working for the weekend is okay for a short-term goal, but if you find yourself living for Fridays, you might want to think about why.

Our lives are not compartmentalized into weekdays or weekend; each day is equally important.

But if the thrill of the weekdays is gone, check to see what's wrong.

Are you feeling unfulfilled on your job? Overwhelmed with financial concerns? Or perhaps you just sense that life should be more than it is?

Pinpoint your problem and then seek to change your perspective.

Yes, you can change the way you think.

But wait, you say, I will still have my financial/health/social problems. Changing how I think about them doesn't make them disappear.

Are you sure? Once you call something a problem, it is. Instead of worrying about these situations, try waiting for a solution. When you choose to wait, you are saying that there is a solution and things will change.

Worrying only feeds your problem.

Working for the weekend won't let you enjoy every day. Don't let your thoughts rob you of valuable time.

Write your life story every day.

Taking Out the Trash

It's a dirty job but someone's got to do it.

But it's actually the consequences of not taking out the trash that gives us the proper motivation. Who wants their home to reek of garbage?

Let's apply this same thinking when writing our life stories.

Dispose of things like discouragement, negative thinking, and the I-can't-do-this mentality.

When thoughts like this stay in your mind, you cannot move forward. In fact, you may even move backwards, into the past where these thoughts first originated.

And always remember this fact:

You and only you control your thoughts.

That means you can get rid of thoughts that are destructive.

Can you imagine what a 5-day-old banana peel smells like? Well, keep that in mind the next time your mind trash talks you.

Take out the trash and take charge of your thoughts.

Stay in Your Lane

There are certain things in our society that help us.

Like all those lines painted on the roads. They tell you which lane to drive in.

Which is especially useful when you are traveling at a fast speed along a highway.

Most drivers understand the importance of staying in their own lanes. That's why we can confidently share the road with other cars. We expect them to obey the lines on the road to insure safety for everyone.

When writing your life story, you have also been assigned a 'lane.' Yep, it's called your life.

Sometimes, it may be tempting to look at other people's 'lanes' and think they are moving faster or better than we are. But changing lanes isn't the best option.

When you work within the parameters of your life, (read this as: tap into the amazing and limitless resources the Universe set aside for you!) you will get to your destination (goal) just fine.

Don't be a lane changer; change your perspective instead.

Hitting the Jackpot

Do you want to hit the jackpot?

Find the gold at the end of the rainbow?

Or maybe yell "Bingo!" in a crowded room?

While all of these things may be fun, the only thing you can really count on is your future.

And it's already filled with all the resources in the Universe.

Consider each current moment a form of currency and spend it wisely.

Whistle While You Work

The dwarfs were right. Whistling while you work helps to improve brain function.

Which will also help you when writing your life story.

Here's how it works:

The brain can get a little cranky when there is too much information to process. This can lead to a 'choking' situation where the brain formulates a response that is adequate but not awesome. This will allow you to get through that stressful situation but there may have been other and better options for you to have taken.

Or to put it simply: when under stress, the brain will show you the nearest exit (or solution) regardless of whether it will lead you to the best place.

When writing your life story, this kind of thinking will not unlock your full potential.

And that's where whistling comes in. Whistling distracts the mind from trying too hard. It helps to prevent mental overload.

You will then be able to think clearer and see all the available options and opportunities that are before you.

Don't worry; whistle instead. And definitely continue to write your life story.

Exclamation Point or Question Mark

What kind of punctuation are you using in the life story you're writing?

Are they exclamation points or question marks?

Exclamation marks are used to express strong feelings:

I am writing my life story with confidence!

Question marks, on the other hand, express uncertainty.

Am I writing my life story with confidence?

Punctuate your life properly and watch what happens!

Why Baby Birds Learn to Fly (and what that means to you!)

It's spring and the nests are filling with baby birds who will soon be flying.

Do you know how they learn to fly?

Mama birds use generous doses of  positive reinforcement and motivation.

As she feeds the baby in the nest, she begins to stand farther away during feeding time, which forces the baby out of the nest. The baby already senses that his life is dependent on food and he will do whatever needs to be done to get it.

Eventually, the baby is balancing with his wings. Instincts take over and before long, the baby is flying and using all of those cool physics principles like drag, lift, and thrust.

The baby, of course, only knows that his real life has just begun and he is now able to partake of nature's smorgasbord, anywhere and anytime.

I have always been impressed with the bird world and their ability to fly.

Now, I will take a lesson from mama bird and use some of that positive reinforcement and motivation in my own life.

Each day, I will take a step forward to achieve my goals.

Each day, I will remember that I am writing my unique life story.

And some day, I will fly into my future, fully prepared for success and fulfillment.

First Place

First place is great if you're running a race or baking an apple pie for a contest.

But in life, there is no first place.

It's just your place--your spot in the Universe.

And there's no need to compete for it either.

Live your place and write your life story.

It's definitely a win-win situation.

Glow in the Dark

Glow in the dark stuff isn't just for kids.

First, let's look at the science behind it.

All glow in the dark products have phosphors. These are substances that radiate light after being energized.

And the length of time they glow is determined by the persistence of the phosphor. (This factor depends on the activator used in the product which can allow it to glow from 1 to 10 hours. But that's TMI for our purposes right now.)

We need to know how we can use this idea to write our life stories.

Glowing in the dark is victory. It's light pushing through darkness and illuminating an area.

Writing your life story is similar to that idea. We live in a huge world with billions of people. It's easy to think we are insignificant and really can't make much of a difference.

Wrong.

Our lives are filled with skills, qualities, and resources (consider it your phosphor). These become activated when we surround ourselves with the positive energy of  success, progress, and fulfillment.

Glowing in the dark is part of the magic of writing your life story.

Shine on...

Reserved Parking

Did you ever look for a parking space only to find that the available ones were reserved for someone else?

(Were you tempted to park there anyway?)

Reserved parking is a nice way to let someone know that they are not only welcome to park there, but are expected to park there frequently.

Consider it a personalized welcome mat.

Sometimes, though, we get a little jealous when we see reserved parking spaces, especially when we really need a place to park.

We may tend to see a reserved spot as a way of not welcoming or wanting us.

Today, I say, "Save your jealousy. You have a reserved spot in the Universe."

That means you are not only welcome but we are all waiting for you.

Pull into your place today and write your life story.

What You Can Learn From a Vampire

I cannot go into a bookstore or a movie theater without encountering a vampire.

Apparently, these creatures have become sort of a role model. They can be immortal, (providing they don't get impaled with a wooden stake), and they have superpowers, like running very fast and sparkling in sunlight.

But they have a downside: vampires are dead.

And because they are dead, they need to drain the lives out of people to give them the energy they need to look alive. (Yeah, kind of confusing, isn't it?)

What in the world does this have to do with writing your life story?

The popularity of vampires has shown us how valuable our lives are.

In stories and movies, humans are literally the life blood for vampires.

We have that special ingredient that vampires crave: life.

And wrapped up in that life are not only the physical elements of breathing and the beating of our hearts, but our lives hold a future.

Our life stories.

So, the next time you see a vampire, remember that you have a superpower that is more extraordinary; you have the power to have a purposeful life.

Show 'em what you're made of.

The Birds and the Bees

No, this post isn't about reproducing; rather, it's about producing-- the life you were meant to have.

Birds and bees are the symbol of the continuity of life. Their actions in nature highlight the certainty of life and the results of living according to one's purpose.

Birds and bees don't make excuses or look for ways to disarm their destinies.

And let's face it, if I were a bee I would be worrying about the toxic effect of Monsanto's chemicals in my environment. Birds, on the other hand, could just as easily hide in their nests their whole lives since there is a real danger of hawks and hungry cats.

But birds and bees continue to do what birds and bees have done for centuries.

And if they can live purposeful lives, (despite some very real odds against them) so can you.

Write your life story with confidence; it really is a fact of life.

What Are You Downloading?

We're all familiar with downloading data or software, but we may not realize what else we are 'downloading.'

When we watch the news, we download not only the facts but also a perspective.

In conversations with friends, we download their opinions.

At work, we download the office protocol.

Is it any wonder we have so many conflicting thoughts racing through our minds every day?

Just like we need time every day to eat and sleep, we also must take time to think. And, no, I am not talking about having random thoughts; I mean a concentrated period of quality thinking.

Start small with only five minutes a day. Get into a quiet place and clear your mind. Think of it as clearing your browser's history.

Then, concentrate on your life story.

Download ideas about moving forward. Remind yourself of your goals and dreams.

Your mind is similar to your computer's hard drive, but it's much more efficient and complex.

Guard your mind from negative thoughts. (Sort of like installing virus protection on your computer.)

Whatever you download or accept into your mind is a choice. (Just like clicking the 'download now' icon.)

Be mindful of what goes into your mind; thoughts have power.

You Can Put All of Your Eggs in One Basket

Are you familiar with the idea of being fearful about putting all of your eggs in one basket?

Apparently, you may lose everything if the basket is dropped.

But what if the basket wasn't dropped? Where did you put the rest of the eggs?

If you are taking away anything from this blog, I hope you see the importance of positive and forward thinking.

This whole basket-egg thing is a great example. Someone coined that term because they were full of negative thinking (about the basket being dropped) and now all of us are thinking the same negative things.

Stop.

Put all of your resources and skills into your life. Pour out every moment into writing your life story.

Don't hold back.

It's okay. You are the basket.

Is Your M.O. Good to Go?

What's your modus operandi?

This term refers to your usual way of doing things. It may be a pattern you follow or a method that you find works best for you.

Your modus operandi, or MO, could be the way you get ready for work in the morning or how you prepare a meal. By doing these repetitive tasks every day, you probably have developed a certain routine that encompasses all the steps you need to take.

But your MO can be more than what you physically do. Your mind can develop an MO too.

When you think about your future goals, do you see yourself achieving them, or are you quick to point out all the ways you could fail?

Never lose sight of the fact that we can control our thoughts.

And those thoughts become actions, maybe even your MO.

View yourself and your future in a positive light. Consistently. As in every day.

Start each morning with the idea that you are moving forward toward your goals.

Look for good things to come into your life, and they will be found.

Make your MO help you GO forward.
